Healthcare Seminar on the Web
ONLINE – The Affordable Healthcare Act (Healthcare reform) is one of the most significant pieces of legislation to positively impact the poor in the United States in recent history. It is also one of the most misunderstood. The US Federation of the Sisters of St. Joseph sponsored a presentation by Ascension Health about the Affordable Healthcare Act. St. Joseph Day 2012
Australia – Sisters of St. Joseph around the world celebrated March 19. Saint Joseph, as Sister Anne Derwin Congregational Leader recently spoke of, is the one “who in the scriptures was certainly one of the least through whom and with whom God’s mission was exercised.” The work begun by Mary MacKillop and Julian Tenison Woods continues to respond to the needs of those least in society and church. Brasil – Depois de longo tempo e preparação, após ter acalentado o sonho missionário, Ir. Vilma de Oliveira, nascida na Bahia, e já tendo realizado várias tarefas em sua Província, Lagoa Vermelha, partiu para a missão de Mocimboa da Praia, em Moçambique. Foi no dia 13 de março. Malas prontas, despedidas, tudo conforme pede uma viagem internacional pela SOUTH AFRICA, Ir. Vilma veio até São Paulo e daqui viajou à tardinha. The 2012 Gathering of Sisters in Their 20s and 30s
Over Martin Luther King weekend, 18 sisters from 15 different congregations gathered at Our Lady of Guadalupe Monastery for the annualGiving Voicegathering of sisters in their 20s and 30s. Over the next few Updates we will be sharing reflections from some of the participants. Sarah Heger, a 30 year old Sister of St. Joseph from St. Louis, shares here some of her experience at the gathering:

Latinamerica at the UN
Griselda Martinez Morales along with a team of Sisters proposed to form a group that create channels to enable the Latin American realities to be present at the United Nations. The core team for this group would consist of the following Congregations: Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd (RGS), Sisters of the Providence –UNANIMA; International Presentation Association (IPA); Congregations of Saint Joseph (CSSJ). Making Lace, Making Peace

Sister Anne Bryan Smollin to Receive Award
Albany, NY – Sister Anne Bryan Smollin, CSJ, has been named the recipient of the 2012 Bishop Edwin B. Broderick Award from the Albany Diocesan Office of Evangelization, Catechesis and Family Life. The awarded will be given during the opening keynote and prayer service (May 14, 2012, 9:30 a.m.) for the 39th Spring Enrichment Program. Read more….

Young Lawyer working for Justice Joins the CSJs
New Orleans – Alison McCrary graduated from Loyola Law School in May and is in formation to become a nun in the Congregation of St. Joseph. She lives with a group of sisters in a house near Bayou St. John, and every night at 6.p. m. they sit down to eat together and share after-dinner prayers. Read more….
